MOLDING INTO THE FABRIC

Rooms are carriers of their storys. They are bodies of unliving material. The rooms of the former slaughterhouse have always been in the ambiguity of living and dying. Their history has laid over their skin like a patina. “Molding into the Fabric” combines the history and aesthetics of a former Slaughterhouse with the works of young artists from Moabit and Wedding. Thereby the materiality of memories will become visible and a new layer will be woven into the patina of the spaces. But instead of covering it up, it will make visible the very layers that reveal memories. The intersensory nature of the artworks creates a reaction space in which recipients are able to interact with the works and the space and thus become part of the new story-layer. Thus, the exhibition also contrasts with the art industry’s inherent characteristics of distance and boundaries and, in its overall extent, represents a Counter-Design to the principle of the “White Cube”.
